How to use New Year symbols
The New Year has no symbol of its own in Unicode, so people celebrate it with sparkles and numbers. ✧ ✦ ⁂ at the top are text: they take your text colour and paste the way letters do. Fireworks 🎆, champagne 🥂 and the party popper 🎉 exist only as emoji, and they are in the emoji groups.
The year itself comes ready in fancy numbers — bold, double-struck, bubble and tiny superscript digits — and in combos, captions and greetings for a story, a bio or a message at midnight. For your own words or a name, type them into the fancy text generator; for the weeks before, there are Christmas symbols.
Fancy numbers are mathematical characters, not a font, so a screen reader may read them out one by one or skip them — keep the real wish in plain words nearby. Anything your own device cannot draw is hidden from this page.
Questions
What are the symbols of the New Year?
Fireworks, the clock at midnight, champagne and confetti. As text they are sparkles ✧ ✦ ⁂ and the countdown ⑩ … ①; as emoji, 🎆 🕛 🥂 🎊. Some traditions add their own: twelve grapes 🍇 in Spain and Mexico, the red envelope 🧧 at the Lunar New Year.
How do I write the year in fancy numbers?
Copy a ready year from the New Year numbers group. For any other number, type it into the fancy text generator: the bold, double-struck, sans-serif, monospace and bubble styles change digits too, while the script styles have no digits and leave them plain.
How do I type a sparkle symbol on my phone?
There is no ✧ key. Copy it from this page and paste it; to keep it handy, save it as a text replacement, so that a short word turns into ✧ as you type.
Do these work in an Instagram story or WhatsApp?
Yes. They are Unicode text and emoji, so stories, captions, bios and messages accept them. A friend on an old phone may see a box instead of a fancy number or a newer emoji such as 🪩.
