How to use love kaomoji
Love faces mark themselves in one of three ways, and they are not interchangeable: the heart sits in the eyes (♥︎_♥︎) for infatuation, beside the face (*^^*)♡ as a soft aside, or the face is blushing (♡μ_μ) with μ standing in for a shy, half-closed eye.
The heart itself is ♡ or ♥, a text character — not the ❤️ emoji. It keeps the colour of your text instead of turning red, which is why these read as quiet rather than loud, and why they survive in usernames on platforms that reject emoji.

What is the difference between ♡ and ❤️?
♡ is a text character: it takes the colour and size of the text around it and can go into fields that reject emoji. ❤️ is an emoji and is always drawn as a red picture. In a kaomoji the text heart is what you want, otherwise the face and the heart end up in different visual styles.
What does the μ in (♡μ_μ) mean?
Nothing mathematical — it is borrowed for its shape. μ reads as an eye squeezed shut in embarrassment, so the face is blushing rather than staring. The same role is played by ᴗ and ﹏ in other faces.
Which one do I use for a partner rather than a crush?
Hearts in the eyes (♥︎_♥︎) read as struck by something — that is the crush version, and it is aimed at whatever you just mentioned. A heart beside a calm face, like (*^^*)♡, reads as affection rather than reaction, which is the one that fits a person you already know.
