What this site knows about you

The short version

SymbolsKit is free and has no ads. Nothing here is sold to anyone, and there is no account to create. The site counts what people copy so it can tell which symbol sets are worth building — that is the whole reason the measurement exists.

What gets stored on your device

A random identifier, how many times you have visited, your theme choice, which sets you liked, the symbols you saved to “My set”, which days you copied a symbol, which sets you opened and which badges you earned (for your streak and badge collection), the day of your first visit and what is new you have already seen (so the “New” line is not shown twice), and whether you have already left your email, so the bio builder does not ask again. All of it lives in your browser's local storage, not on a server, and it is not linked to a name, an email or an IP address. Clearing your browser data for this site erases it completely and permanently.

What gets sent to us

When you copy a symbol, like a set, share a page or open the app dialog, the site records the event: which page, which symbol, whether you have been here before, and the browser you are using. It is stored in Google Firestore. No message you type anywhere else on your device is readable by this site, and the page has no access to your clipboard's existing contents — copying writes to it, it never reads from it.

When you use the search, the site records what you typed and how many sets and symbols it found. Email addresses, links and long numbers are cut out before anything is sent, and the text is cut to 40 characters. It goes to Google Firestore and Google Analytics, so we can see what people look for that the site does not have yet.

If you save symbols to “My set”, the site records each symbol you save or remove and how many are in the set. It goes to Google Firestore and Google Analytics, so we can see whether saved sets are worth building into the app. The set itself stays in your browser. Some visitors see “My set” and some do not: that is how we compare.

If you earn a badge, see a badge card, open your badge collection, copy a badge or your streak ends, the site records that event: which badge and level, or how long the streak was, and the page it happened on. For a new badge it also records what earned it: a copy, opening a set, the aesthetic quiz, the bio builder or the “What's missing?” form. If the badges feature itself fails, the site records that too: which step failed and the page. Tapping a badge you have not earned yet is recorded as well: which badge and the page. It goes to Google Firestore and Google Analytics, so we can see whether badges bring people back. The streak and the badges themselves stay in your browser. Some visitors see the streak counter and the badge collection and some do not: that is how we compare.

If you use the bio builder on the Bio page, the site records which of its controls you touch — name, font, frame, line symbol, lines, empty line — but not what you type. When you copy, it records which font, frame and line symbol you chose, how many lines the bio had and whether it had an empty line. Your name and the lines you typed are not sent anywhere: the bio is put together in your browser. The record goes to Google Firestore and Google Analytics.

The “What's missing?” form. If you send an answer, we store the text you typed, the apps you ticked, where on the site you opened the form and the same anonymous technical fields as other events. Before saving, email addresses, links and phone numbers in the text are replaced with placeholders. The text never goes to Google Analytics — only whether there was any. If you then leave your email, it is stored like any other waitlist address.

Google Analytics

The site loads Google Analytics 4, which sets its own cookies and receives your approximate location, device type and the pages you open. Google is the data processor for that. If you would rather it did not run, an ad blocker or Google's own opt-out add-on stops it, and the rest of the site keeps working normally.

Ahrefs Web Analytics

The site also loads Ahrefs Web Analytics, which counts page views without setting any cookie and without building a profile of you across sites. It records the page address, the referring site, and a coarse country — nothing that identifies you. It is here because Google Analytics is blocked inside several in-app browsers, so on its own it undercounts.

Server logs

The site is hosted on Firebase Hosting (Google). Like any web server, it logs each request: the page or file asked for, the time, the IP address, the browser or bot name, the referring site and an approximate city and country. These logs are kept in Google Cloud Logging and deleted automatically after 30 days. We use them to see which search engines and AI assistants read the site, not to follow individual visitors.

Your email

If you enter an email to hear about the app, it is stored separately and used for exactly that. No newsletter, no resale, no third-party marketing lists. Ask and it gets deleted.
