How to use CODM names

A CODM name is usually built from parts: a mark that looks like a kanji — 彡, メ, 乂 — sometimes a short clan tag in front, split off with 乛 or 丶, and the name itself, now and then in small caps. Here are those pieces and ready names made of words from the game: Legendary, the top rank; Hardpoint, Domination and Search & Destroy, the ranked modes; Crash and Nuketown, maps since the launch; and Tagalog words — Bayani, Kidlat, Diwata — for players in the Philippines. For PUBG Mobile names see PUBG names; for Mobile Legends — MLBB names; for Free Fire — skull symbols.

Activision publishes no list of allowed characters for the global version of the game. The Vietnamese version does: there a name takes 3 to 14 characters — letters, digits and a few marks like the dot — with no spaces, and a letter with an accent counts as two. Guides for the global version give the same 14. So every ready-made name here is 14 bytes or less — a plain letter is one byte, 彡 or a small-caps ᴋ is three — and fits whichever way the game counts. A typed space does not work. Players report that the filter has grown stricter after updates, so if a name is refused, drop one symbol and try again, or take one from the group without symbols.

To change your name you need a Rename Card: the game offers one for 500 COD Points during the change, and a name can be changed once every three days. Clans open at Level 5. A clan gets a name and an emblem but no tag, which is why players type the tag into their own name, as in the clan-tag group above — each still fits the 14 characters. For your own word in small caps, the small text generator works, but most of those letters cost two or three bytes, so keep the word short. Fan-made, not affiliated with Activision.

Questions

How long can a CODM name be?

14 characters: that is the limit in the official naming rules of the Vietnamese version, which also asks for at least 3 and counts a letter with an accent as two, and guides for the global version say the same. Every ready-made name here is 14 bytes or less, so it fits whichever way the game counts; if yours is refused, drop the frame on one side — メNuketown instead of メNuketownメ.

Why does CODM say “Invalid input” or “Username contains invalid characters”?

The rename box refuses some characters, and Activision publishes no list for the global version. In the Vietnamese version only letters, digits and a few marks like @ and the dot are allowed, with no spaces. The game also blocks names its content filter finds inappropriate, players report the filter has grown stricter after updates, and the name may simply be taken. Remove symbols one at a time until the name goes through.

How do I change my name in CODM?

Tap your name at the top of the main screen, open the second tab, Player Profile, tap the Edit icon next to your name, enter the new one and tap Change. You need a Rename Card; if you have none, the game offers one for 500 COD Points. A name can be changed once every three days.

How do I put a clan tag in my CODM name?

CODM clans have a name and an emblem but no tag field, so players type the tag into their own name: two or three letters, a mark like 乛 or 丶, then the name — KVX乛Rook. The tag counts toward the 14 characters, so keep it short; tiny letters like ᴷᴿ cost three bytes each. Clans open at Level 5.
