How to use discord symbols
These are plain Unicode characters, so Discord treats them as text. They paste into your display name, your nickname on each server, and into server, channel and role names — the divider characters here are what most decorated server layouts are built from.
The one field that will not take them is the username, the unique @handle. That one is lowercase letters, digits, underscore and period. If a symbol is being refused, that is usually the field you are in — switch to the display name, which is the name people actually see in chat, and change it as often as you like.
Two small things that trip people up. Discord trims spaces from the start and end of a name, so padding a name with blanks to push it up a list does not survive. And a name made only of symbols is one nobody can type — @mentions still work, since Discord matches them by id, but autocomplete becomes the only way anyone finds you.

Do these work in a Discord username?
No. The unique @handle accepts only lowercase a–z, digits, underscore and period. Symbols go in your display name, which is the one shown in chat, or in your nickname on a specific server. Both are free to change as often as you like.
How do I use these in a channel name?
Paste them straight into the channel name. Discord lowercases letters and turns spaces into hyphens in text channels, but symbols and dividers pass through unchanged — that is why ┃ and ・ show up in almost every organised server.
Will a decorative name get me moderated?
Decoration on its own is fine. What gets actioned is using lookalike characters to imitate someone else, which Discord treats as misrepresenting your identity. Also note many servers run bots that rename people whose names start with punctuation to sort them to the top of the member list.
Why do some symbols show as empty boxes for other people?
Their device has no font covering that character. We hide anything your own device cannot render, but someone on an older phone may still see a box. Sticking to the simpler marks on this page is the safe choice for a name other people have to read.
