How to use cute kaomoji
Cute kaomoji in the current style are drawn small and soft. The eyes are ᵔ, or ˃ and ˂ for a squint, tiny modifier letters that sit high on the line; the mouth is ᵕ, the bottom half of a small o; and the cheeks are ˶, two short strokes that read as a blush: (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶). Swap the cheeks for ⸝⸝ and the face turns shy, as in (⸝⸝ᵕᴗᵕ⸝⸝).
Some of them have ears. ૮ and ა, a Gujarati digit and a Georgian letter, hang on both sides like floppy ears, a puppy's or a lop-eared bunny's, in ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა, and ᐢ from Canadian syllabics points up like a bunny ear in ₍ᐢ•ﻌ•ᐢ₎. Those come from scripts an older phone may have no font for, so the person reading your bio may see an empty box; faces built from ˶ ᵔ ᵕ and brackets paste almost anywhere. Most are seven to twelve characters, short enough for a display name, and three or four fit in an 80-character TikTok bio.

What is the ˶ in (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)?
A blush. Unicode calls it modifier letter middle double acute accent: two short slanted strokes at mid-height, so on either side of the eyes they read as pink cheeks. ⸝⸝ does the same job with lower, heavier strokes, and the face looks shyer: (⸝⸝ᵕᴗᵕ⸝⸝).
What are ᵔ and ᵕ?
Modifier letters for the top and bottom half of a small o, taken from phonetic notation. ᵔ curves up like a closed, smiling eye; ᵕ curves down like a small mouth. They are small and sit high, which keeps the face light; with ˃ and ˂ for eyes the same face squints with joy: (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶).
Why do some cute faces show as boxes?
The ears come from scripts an older phone may have no font for: ૮ is a Gujarati digit, ა a Georgian letter, ᐢ a Canadian syllabic.
